Firearm Returns
Individuals seeking the return of the firearms must apply for gun release eligibility from the California Department of Justice (DOJ). Contact DOJ at 916-263-4887 or go to the California Department of Justice website for forms and information. The process may take approximately 1-2 months and is fully dependent on the individual’s receipt of DOJ’s Gun Release letter. Once approval is granted by DOJ for the return of firearm(s), schedule an appointment and bring the certified DOJ letter, proof of ownership and a valid photo identification to the Livermore Police Department at the time of pick up.
Ammunition
The Livermore Police Department does not accept ammunition for disposal. Residents can drop-off ammunition at the Livermore Household Hazardous Waste facility at 5584 La Ribera Street. Call 1-800-606-6606 for more information.
