Livermore Police is aware some residents have received phone calls from someone claiming to be a member of the Livermore Police Department.

The caller claims a warrant has been issued for the resident’s arrest for failing to appear for jury duty or another type of court appearance. The caller sometimes has personal information about the resident, for example an old address or phone number. Keep in mind this information can be easily searched and found online.

The citizen is then asked to pay a warrant via an electronic payment app or told to appear in police station at the police station in person. Often times, the caller strongly urges to pay via the app claiming no officers can help them.

If the resident misses the call, scammers are spoofing Livermore Police Department’s phone number to target victims into thinking the police is calling them. Do not trust caller ID as the number can easily be changed.

We want to remind the community the Livermore Police Department will never contact you to request any form of payment over the phone. The Livermore Police Officers Association does not make phone calls for donations but does mailers instead.

If you receive a phone call like the one described, do not provide personal or financial information especially highly sensitive information like a social security number as that could lead to identity theft.
