Livermore Police Promotes Officer Wellness with Mandatory Mental Wellness Check-Ins

Post Date:02/12/2026
Wellness is a core value of the Livermore Police Department, and mental wellness is essential to serving both officers and the community.

Beginning in January, Livermore Police implemented an annual mandatory mental wellness check-in for all sworn personnel with a licensed clinician. Chief Jeramy Young is among the first to participate, reinforcing the department’s commitment to wellness and the benefits of being proactive.

“We are trying to break the stigma when it comes to mental health issues and make sure everyone knows it’s expected to ask for help and to be proactive about staying healthy,” said Chief Young. “We want our officers to be as healthy as possible and have invested in their wellness. We are making it clear that mental wellness matters here. Police officers see and carry difficult things and experience events that most will never have to endure. These check-ins help normalize support, reduce stigma, and ensure our team has the resources to stay healthy for themselves, their families, and the community.”

“Public safety professionals face risks to their health and well-being that until now have had little education or resources to combat the impact of that stress,” said Elisa Hughes, Public Safety Family Counseling Group. “Wellness visits are not therapy; they are an opportunity to learn the personal impact of that stress and develop an individualized plan to combat and even reverse that damage. Officers are embracing the opportunity the wellness visits provide and so far, feedback has been very positive. We are honored to serve Livermore in this endeavor.”

This initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach to supporting officers throughout their careers and strengthening our organization. This benefit is also available to the entire public safety team.

The City of Livermore is committed to taking care of the people who take care of our community because supporting wellness is both the right thing to do, and essential to excellent public safety.
