After a nearly 16-month-long investigation, Livermore Police developed and followed up on numerous investigative leads that ultimately led to the whereabouts of double homicide suspect 31-year-old Yonston Vazquez of Oakland.
With the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Vazquez was taken into custody in Mexico on August 20, 2025, around 6:30 a.m. He was extradited back to Livermore later that night and booked into Santa Rita Jail on two counts of homicide.
On April 27, 2024, around 6:45 a.m., Livermore Police responded to a report of a shooting at the La Quinta Inn on Southfront Road. When officers arrived, they located a 26-year-old woman from Oakland and a 21-year-old man from Hayward who had been shot inside a room. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Livermore Police’s Criminal Investigations Bureau immediately took over the case and identified Vazquez as the suspect. Investigators determined that Vazquez knew one of the victims.
“This arrest represents the relentless pursuit of justice,” said Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young. “From the first response to the final arrest, the professionalism and persistence of our officers, specialized units, and detectives were critical to bringing this case to resolution and ensuring accountability for the victims’ families. I would also like to thank the FBI and HSI for their assistance as this suspect would not be in custody without their efforts and our partnership.”
This case marked the City of Livermore’s first and second homicides of 2024.
