Livermore Police Department and East Bay SPCA Launch Partnership to Provide Animal Welfare Services Starting July 1

LIVERMORE, Calif., Tuesday, June 3, 2025 — The Livermore Police Department and East Bay SPCA are proud to announce a new partnership to provide compassionate care and shelter for stray and abandoned animals in the City of Livermore. Beginning July 1, 2025, stray dogs and injured cats found within the City of Livermore will be cared for by East Bay SPCA, which operates a modern, full-service facility in Dublin.

This partnership ensures that lost and homeless animals receive high-quality veterinary care, exercise, and enrichment, with efforts focused on reunification with their families or placement into new, loving homes. It also strengthens both organizations’ shared commitment to serving the community through responsive, humane, and professional animal services.

“Our partnership with local animal sheltering agencies is vital to our mission of ensuring animals have safe housing and to our efforts in reuniting lost pets with their owners,” said Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young.

Under this agreement, East Bay SPCA will work closely with Livermore Police Department’s Animal Services Officers to manage sheltering services, including intake, care, and placement of stray dogs and injured cats found within the City of Livermore. Residents who find a lost or stray animal should call the non-emergency dispatch line at (925) 371-4987 for pick-up. Alternatively, members of the public may bring animals directly to East Bay SPCA’s Dublin shelter during business hours, Wednesday – Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“We’re honored to expand our reach and deepen our community impact through this partnership. Together with the City of Livermore, we’ll offer life-saving services and resources that help animals thrive and stay in loving homes,” said Karalyn Aronow, Vice President of Operations at East Bay SPCA.

In addition to housing and adoption services, East Bay SPCA offers an array of community-based programs to support pet owners and promote animal welfare:

· Pet Owner Support Services: Free community pantry with pet food and supplies, financial assistance for veterinary care including low or no-cost spay/neuter, temporary crisis boarding and behavioral support to help families keep their pets. East Bay SPCA provides resources for people to keep their beloved pets. However, when that is no longer an option, East Bay SPCA evaluates and accepts animals surrendered by their owners.

· Youth Education Programs: Seasonal day camps, experiential learning, and teen leadership opportunities for ages 6–17, designed to inspire compassion and develop a deeper understanding of animal welfare. Scholarships available.

· Community Education Workshops: Private training and group classes for dogs, free Behavior & Training helpline and English and Spanish training guides, virtual cat training, low-cost educational webinars on common behavioral challenges, humane education presentations for schools and onsite groups that include animal care lessons and supervised animal interactions and animal safety workshops for all ages. Scholarships available.

· Emergency Preparedness: As an American Red Cross partner, East Bay SPCA’s Dublin facility is equipped with emergency response trailers and maintains trained staff and supplies to support temporary sheltering or rescue deployment during disasters, at the request of local jurisdictions.

· Volunteer and Foster Programs: Opportunities for the public to walk, care for, or foster shelter animals — including weekend field trips, day hikes and sleepovers.

· Modern Shelter Facility: Designed to promote health and comfort, the facility includes indoor/outdoor kennels, natural lighting, state-of-the-art ventilation, on-site veterinary care and quarantine spaces.
