Livermore Police Holiday Period Activity Report: June 26-July 4

Post Date:07/09/2024
From June 26th to July 4th, Livermore Police had additional officers working patrol to deal with the normal increase in call volume. During this period, we received 1,813 calls for service with 201 calls for service related to fireworks (130 of those calls were on the July 4th alone).

Leading up to Independence Day, officers conducted 44 proactive patrol checks specifically targeting fireworks violations. As a result, seven citations were issued, with additional investigations ongoing. In several cases, warnings were given instead of citations as is our normal procedure for minor violations with cooperative parties.

On the evening of the 4th of July, we used 45 hours of overtime to increase staffing levels so we could better deal with the increased calls for service. We did deal with several significant calls for service which tied up resources such as an alcohol related collision with injuries and an arrest, a shooting with an injured person, and several high priority calls.

“I would like to thank all the officers and dispatchers who worked very hard to balance public safety priorities over the holiday period. I know widespread fireworks violations frustrate a large part of our community and our public safety professionals as well,” stated Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young.
